Jordan, Richard
I find inspiration for my paintings often in beautifully
ordinary places. Views reminiscent of areas I knew as a
boy growing up in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It’s like painting
an old friend, someone cherished and familiar.
All of my landscapes are painted on location, directly from
nature. The challenges of painting en plein air can be very satisfying yet humbling.
It encourages a deeper concentration and builds a stronger understanding of how
light affects everything in the landscape.
I paint as honestly as I can without hidden meanings or art babble. It’s an honor to
set up my easel under God’s sky and work at something so rare and beautiful as
the act of painting. It truly is a blessing and the artwork itself, is almost secondary.
I am a lifelong resident of the Kalamazoo area, studied graphic design and
illustration at the Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Fl.
Worked 28 years as a page designer and illustrator for the Kalamazoo Gazette
until my early retirement in 2009. In 2008 I founded the Plein Air Artists of
West Michigan, and currently act as it’s director.
